The area of the Arts as part of the historic center of St. Petersburg included in the list of UNESCO world heritage

Area located in Moskovskiy district of St. Petersburg between Engineering and Italian streets. The ensemble of the square, consisting of buildings of the Mikhailovsky Palace (nowadays the building houses the State Russian Museum) Mikhailovsky theatre (former theatre of Opera and ballet named after M. P. Musorgsky), home Golenishchev-Kutuzov, musical Comedy Theatre, Russian Museum of Ethnography, the Grand hall of the Philharmonic named after D. D. Shostakovich and "Europe" hotel, designed by famous architect Carlo Rossi in the first half of the nineteenth century. In the square in 1957 was a monument to A. S. Pushkin by sculptor M. K. Anikushin and architect V. A. Petrov. As part of the historic buildings of the downtown of St. Petersburg the square is included in the world heritage list. The rectangular area of the Art is built up with buildings, the facades of which was developed by architect K. I. Rossi in the ensemble of the Mikhaylovsky Palace and St. Michael street
