The ceremony was opened by the vice-governor Vladimir Kirillov, the director of the Office of the Federal Postal Service of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region - the branch of the Russian Post, Vitalii Dyrdasov, as well as the ambassadors of St. Petersburg - the host city of the FIFA World Cup 2018 - the People's Artist of Russia Vasily Gerello and the famous Russian TV commentator Gennadii Orlov.
In a welcoming address to the participants of the event, Vladimir Kirillov noted that the release of a unique series of stamps will become part of football history, and over time, this collection will become increasingly valuable.
Speaking about the forthcoming World Championship, the vice-governor said that the city is in the final stage of preparation for the tournament.
Last Sunday, as part of the football match between FC "Zenit" and FC "SKA-Khabarovsk", the working capacity of the St. Petersburg stadium loading scheme was successfully tested after commissioning of new transport infrastructure facilities. The last sports objects intended for accommodation of bases of teams-participants of the competition are handed over. The complex improvement and decoration of the city for the forthcoming Championship is coming to an end.
For the organization of leisure of football fans, a program of various events is planned. The main area for their holding will be the territory of the Koniushennaya Square, where up to 15 thousand people can be accommodated at a time. "We have provided all necessary measures in order to adequately accept our guests and show them true Russian hospitality," Vladimir Kirillov emphasized.
According to Vitalii Dyrdasov, in the framework of the preparations for the World Championship, another ceremony of cancellation of the postage stamp under the title "Final" will take place, as well as a number of other joint events with the Committee for Physical Culture and Sport.
The FIFA 2018 World Cup will be held in 11 cities of Russia from June 14 to July 15, 2018.
St. Petersburg will host 7 matches of the tournament. In the group stage, Morocco and Iran (June 15), Russia - Egypt (June 19), Brazil - Costa Rica (June 22), Nigeria - Argentina (June 26) will play at the "Stadium of St. Petersburg".
