The press conference, confined to the World Cup Trophy Tour in St. Petersburg, was held today, May 28, in the Boardroom of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sport.
The media event was attended by Pavel Belov, Chairman of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sport of St. Petersburg, Oleg Piletsky, head of the PR department of the Coca-Cola System Project in Russia to prepare for the FIFA 2018 World Cup, the legend of FIFA and the World Cup 2016 champion (as part of the Italian national team) Marco Materazzi and Honored Artist of Russia, UNESCO Artist for Peace, Federal Ambassador of the FIFA 2018 World Cup Zara.
"It's an honor for us to host this trophy here," Pavel Belov stressed. – “We are all in anticipation of the World Cup and are confident that it will be held at the highest level.”
Marco Materazzi noted that it is the first time in his life that he visits St.Petersburg.
– “St. Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I'll be happy to come to your wonderful city again," says Marco Materazzi. – “As for my participation in the World Cup, I will definitely be at the opening match on June 14 in Moscow, at one of the semifinals and, of course, at the final match. Undoubtedly, the World Cup will further promote the development of football in Russia and immediately after the end of this football fest many new football players will appear!”
Ambassador of the World Cup Zara noted that the world should see our country open and friendly.
"I'm glad that the World Cup came to my hometown," the singer said. –“As Ambassador of the World Cup I saw many new Russian stadiums that amazed me. I am sure that all of us are waiting for a wonderful and unforgettable fest of football.”
After the press conference Pavel Belov, Oleg Piletsky, Marco Materazzi and Zara went to the stadium "Nova Arena" (Grazhdanskiy pr., 100), where a football unified match was held. It was also attended by the representatives of the Administration of St. Petersburg and famous Petersburgers, as well as the representatives of the Coca-Cola System in Russia. The match was organized with the support of the City Administration.
The goal of the unified match is to unite people with developmental challenges and build one team, to draw attention to the problem of social isolation of people with special needs and contribute to the creation of a barrier-free environment in Russia. As part of the Tour of the Official Cup Trophy, such matches have already been played in Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Sochi, Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, Samara, Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod.
The match ended in a draw - 1: 1. Pavel Belov, Oleg Piletsky, Marco Materazzi and Zara also joined the game playing for different teams.
The FIFA World Cup Trophy tour will last in the Northern capital until June 2.
